Bond suffered a massive heart attack at noon on November 5, 1960, when he and his wife were at a Dallas hotel. He was pronounced dead at a hospital that day at the age of 57. His close friend John Wayne gave the eulogy at his funeral. Bond’s will left to Wayne the shotgun with which Wayne accidentally shot Bond on a hunting trip.
