Breck’s wife Diana announced on his website in June 2010 that the actor had been battling dementia. He was no longer in a condition to sign autographs for his fans, but appreciated their letters, she said. She also said he was still physically healthy and was in no need of medication.

On January 10, 2012, Diane Breck reported that her husband was hospitalized. Barely a month later, the actor succumbed to his illness on February 6, 2012. He died at 82 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
