Misao Okawa, recognized as the world’s oldest living person, passed away peacefully at the age of 117, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that spanned three centuries.

A Life Spanning Three Centuries

Born on March 5, 1898, in the Tenma district of Osaka, Japan, Misao Okawa was the fourth daughter of a kimono maker.

In 1919, she married Yukio Okawa, and together they had three children: two daughters and a son. After her husband’s death in 1931, Misao Okawa continued to lead a fulfilling life, eventually becoming a grandmother to four and a great-grandmother to six.

Her longevity earned her the title of the world’s oldest living person in 2013, a testament to her resilience and the rich history she witnessed.

Misao Okawa’s Passing

Misao Okawa passed away from heart failure on April 1, 2015, at a nursing home in Osaka. She was 117 years old at the time of her death.
