Former Miss America Mary Ann Mobley’s cause of death

Mary Ann Mobley, the Miss America turned actress, passed away at the age of 77, after a battle with breast cancer.

Mobley was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on February 17, 1937, and grew up in the small town of Brandon.

She is a former Miss America (1959) and was the first Mississippian to achieve this honor. She was also a noted TV actress who married TV show host Gary Collins. They had a daughter, Mary Clancy Collins.

The couple separated in 2010 as the actress was battling cancer and Gary was depressed about her illness, and they both felt they needed a break. Gary also had problems after being arrested three times and convicted twice for DUI. But the two reconciled and lived together in Biloxi when Mobley passed away. Their marriage lasted 45 years.

Illness and Death

Mobley suffered from Crohn’s disease and had been an activist for improvements in treatment.

She underwent chemotherapy and radiation as she dealt with stage 3 breast cancer. The actress died at her home in Beverly Hills, California, on December 9, 2014, aged 77, from the disease.

Burial

Her funeral was held in Jackson, Mississippi, and both she and her husband are buried at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland, Mississippi.
