Hollywood gossip columnist and rival of film critic and fellow gossip writer Louella Parsons. Her “Hedda Hopper’s Hollywood” column, which eventually fed the anti-communist hysteria of the McCarthy era by naming alleged communists, first appeared in the Los Angeles Times in the late 1930s.
She married actor DeWolf Hopper in 1913; together, they raised an actor son, William Hopper.
