Walt Disney was an animator, voice actor, producer, and entertainer who founded The Walt Disney Company with his brother Roy O. Disney. He created the iconic character Mickey Mouse and produced such classic films as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Cinderella.
He married Lillian Bounds in 1925. He had two daughters: Diane and Sharon.
Death
Disney had been an avid smoker since World War I, favoring non-filtered cigarettes. He also enjoyed smoking a pipe in his youth.
In the initial days of November 1966, he received a diagnosis of lung cancer and underwent cobalt therapy.
On November 30, feeling unwell, he was transported by ambulance from his residence to St. Joseph Hospital.
Unfortunately, on December 15, at the age of 65, he succumbed to circulatory collapse resulting from the cancer.
Urban Legend
There is a persistent urban legend suggesting that Walt Disney was cryonically frozen in hopes of being reanimated in the future. His daughter Diane explicitly refuted the claim, stating, “There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that my father, Walt Disney, wished to be frozen.”
Burial
His cremation took place two days later. His ashes were laid to rest in a small garden area just outside the Freedom Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
