Leading man who starred in numerous Hollywood films from 1928 to 1962 and was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame in 1975. He appeared in movies of all genres, including over 60 Western films.
Personal life
He grew up in a very wealthy family with five other siblings.
He married twice. Between 1936 and 1939 he was married to heiress Marion duPont. In 1944 he wedded Patricia Stillman, who was 21 years his junior. Their marriage lasted until his death.
Death
Scott died on March 2, 1987, at age 89, in Beverly Hills, California. The actor died in his sleep according to his son-in-law, Sam Tyler.
Cause of death
In the years following his death, Scott had been ill with a weak heart and several episodes of pneumonia. He died of heart and lung ailments.
Burial
He was interred at Elmwood Cemetery in Henderson, North Carolina. His grave is four blocks from his childhood home. Patricia, his wife of 43 years, died in 2004 and is buried next to her husband.
