He was a local guitarist in Peoria, Illinois, writing material that went on to become REO Speedwagon’s catalog.

Though best known as a guitarist, he was featured as a vocalist on several REO Speedwagon tracks, including “(Only A) Summer Love.”

He was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois.
