George Montgomery, best known for his rugged charm in classic Westerns, had a long and varied career in Hollywood. He starred in numerous films throughout the 1940s and beyond, including Orchestra Wives (1942) and The Brasher Doubloon (1947). His later credits include the World War II epic Battle of the Bulge (1965) and the 1980 drama Blood, Money and Tears.

Off screen, Montgomery briefly dated actress Hedy Lamarr and was once engaged to her. In 1943, he married singer and actress Dinah Shore. The couple had a daughter together and also adopted a son, sharing nearly two decades of marriage before their eventual divorce. At the time of his death, he had been with his longtime companion Ann Lindberg for over 20 years
